House of Sampoerna Museum

House of Sampoerna Museum is located in the middle of of Surabaya city. It is accessible by public transportation in the city. House of Sampoerna was an orphanage in Dutch colonial era and change its function as cigarettes factory after bought by Liem Seeng Tee, the founder of Sampoerna and further this factory grew bigger and stronger.

The museum plant was used as museum since 2003, while the complex is now still functioning as factory. Museum displayed the belonging of the founder of Sampoerna and also displayed the history of the company. At the third floor where you could not take photograph, you can see the atmosphere of cigarettes factory where women roll and pack cigarettes in an unbelievable speed using traditional equipment. And it is not common cigarettes they roll, but kretek cigarettes.

Kretek cigarettes is a gloves flavoured cigarettes that commonly accompany Javanese and Indonesian for centuries  to drink coffee, having snacks and talking till late at night. From farmers, to royal family smoked kretek, and until today kretek had loyal fans.
